MSU MedLife Voluteer Trip to Cusco, Peru

• Spring Break, March 2018, MEDLIFE medical service volunteer group trip.
• Visited various villages each day to assist in delivering basic medical and dental care.

Michigan State University SUPER: Summer Undergraduate Physician-scientist-training Education & Research (May 30 to August 4, 2017)

• 60 hours shadowing multiple DO and MD physicians
• Specialties were pediatrics, family medicine, radiology, and OMM

Sparrow Hospital Surgical Lounge (February 2017 to April 2018)

• Receive calls from nurses and direct families to proper rooms based on nurse’s instructions
• Keep track of a patient’s movements throughout the surgical process and communicate this with the families
• Answer any questions the family may have and provide support to them

Michigan State University Job Shadowing of Dr. Mathew Saffarian (DO), Pain & Spine Medicine (February 7, 2017 to May 2017)

• Observed Dr. Saffarian give spinal injections and perform EMG procedure on patients in clinic
• Observed clinic hours and handling of patients
• Learned proper procedure for determining possible nerve damage

MSU SACI: Michigan State University Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention (October 8, 2016 to April 2018)

• Volunteer to work crisis hotlines and be on call for Medical Advocacy needs on 24 hour shifts
• Provide procedural support to survivors; offering them legal and medical information
• Provide empathetic therapy and emotional support

Michigan State University Job Shadowing of Dr. Alpa Sidhu (MD, PhD), Clinical Geneticist (October 4, 2016 and May 9 & 16, 2017)

• Interviewed Dr. Sidhu on the MD schooling and degree, PhD, and future for clinical geneticists
• Observed Dr. Sidhu examine patients for a variety of genetic diseases
• Observed how patients were handled depending on age, stage of the diagnosis process, family present, etc.
• Learned clinical geneticist examination procedure
